1991 GRABBY AWARDS -- THE FIRST YEAR In the year end issue of "Behind Closed Doors" in 1991 Hank Ferguson (than writing under the name Hank R. Chief) wrote: "Now, for the very first year, we are happy to present the Gay Chicago Magazine's Citations for 1991 or the "Grabbys." BURNOUT OF THE YEAR: Jason Ross (From winning industry awards for actor of the year in '90, he can barely maintain a stiffy in current videos). COMEBACK OF THE YEAR: Grant Fagan, The Return of Grant Fagan (Vivid Video) and I Lick it -- Cuz I Like It. FRESH SUPRISE OF THE YEAR: Lex Baldwin, Man of the Year, (Catalina Video). BEST SUUPPORTING ACTOR: Johnny Rahm. BEST NEWCOMERS: Aiden Shaw. BEST OVERALL PERFORMER: Damian. 1992 GRABBY AWARDS In 1992 the Grabbys took on more of an awards look as Hank Ferguon again wrote: "Those of you who read last year's 'Grabbys' know that these special distinction are arbitarily decreed by the staff of 'Behind Closed Doors.'It is our way of highlingting certain aspects of the past year's videos that, in our opinion, are worth of special notice. Moving the Grabbys to the 21st Century In 1999 the first live Grabby awards show was held in Chicago during the Memorial Day Weekend. This weekend was selected as Chicago - for the past two decades - had already become the home of the International Mr. Leather contests and attracted thousands of vistitors for the many events stages from Thursday through Monday. It was at the suggestion of Chuck Renslow, the founder of IML, to add the Erotic Gay Video Awards Show as another aspect to the weekend. |
