Bits and bobs from a porn reporter's desk as we close out one year and charge headlong into another: All Worlds Video sent along a press release announcing Devil Dogs, their new line of military videos shot and produced by a brand new recruiter, "Tom from Oceanside, CA." Says the press release, "This guy is so into filming these Marines that I don't think it could be more authentic if he tried!" The first four volumes in the series have been released, with "many more to come." (And that wasn't a pun.) This genre of videos are usually an acquired taste, but no one knows them better than Dirk Yates. Readers have told me they like the videos for the cinema verite edge to the sex, even if they aren't quite into the guys, because the sex feels less manufactured, more "real." (I admit to having a few of Mr. Yates' Private Collection in my own private stash.) What about the magic hands common to this genre, though? I've never been crazy about them; they always struck me as mildly creepy. But what do you folks think? ("Magic hands" indicates a hand that "magically" appears in the frame to help a performer bring himself off.) ·Directrix Chi Chi LaRue's Club Channel 1 venture has teamed with M4M-USA.com to relaunch a version of the cruising Web site tailored for the West Coast. M4M-USA.com was formerly known as M4M4Sex.com. And Club Channel 1 produces videos for gay bars that include promotions and commercials from sponsors, as well as music videos, footage of gay events around the country and appearances by Ms. LaRue and various Rascal Video studs. Club Channel 1 videos (www.clubchannel1.com ) will now include promos for M4M-USA.com. The Walls Come Tumbling Down: Hard rocker Vince Neil, formerly of Motley Crue, has launched Rocktails.net, according to Daily Variety. He also plans to release Vince Neil's Rock Tails in which the musician introduces tales of rock star-groupie debauchery, recreated by porn stars. Notes the article, "Neil will not [partake] personally but will serve as host, emcee and performer of some tunes." Like his Crue bandmate Tommy Lee, Mr. Neil was also the unwitting star of a homemade sex tape, made on vacation with a girlfriend, which has made the rounds of the 'Net and some video stores. THE 2003 READER'S POLL We had freezing rain in Los Angeles to herald the Christmas holidays, which perfectly matched my big, fat flu virus. Bah, humbug. Anyway, after several weeks of intense activity in our "Adams Report" Reader's Poll, the voting has slowed down significantly. We've still got a bit of time until polls close for the preliminary ballot on January 4. Afterwards, we'll get to the final voting. A few items to clear up: There will be no awards ceremony. Thanks for asking. The winners will be announced here and will receive the approbation and warm goodwill of 50,000 weekly readers, plus perhaps an extra goodie that I'm working on. (Not that kind of goodie, although now that I think about it...) Also, as previously explained two or nine times, this is the preliminary ballot. This is not the final ballot. If you're on the preliminary ballot, you're in the running for Best Newcomer, Performer of the Year and/or Best Sex Scene. If you are the winner, you will know it because I will tell you. And then it will appear in print online and in print around the world. For space reasons, please consult last week's column for the most up-to-late list of potential nominees for Best Sex Scene. As I said, we'll stop accepting nominations on Sunday, January 4th. Next week's column will be devoted entirely to the Best Sex Scene category; the following week will be devoted exclusively to Best Newcomer and Performer of the Year, if space allows. Voting should wrap up by the end of January, right around the time the GAYVN (that's now spelled all-caps, by the way) nominations are announced. Following are the 27 potentials for Best Newcomer. No additional names were submitted this week, so while a few stragglers may yet come in, I think we've got our list.
