Stars and fans make Grabby Weekend a
winner... |
The Grabby weekend started off with a winner with the "Men of Gentry" calendar contest at Gentry on State, with Matthew Rush as the host and emcee. In many ways, this up-and-coming star (A Falcon Exclusive) became not only a crowd pleaser but also worked some of this peers into the proceedings. His onstage play with Sam Dixon became a great "tongue in cheek" event. The sculpted Rush was only the beginning of a night of bodybuilding delights with Billy Harrington at the Cell Block for the premier party for Inside Porn Magazine featuring Harrington on the cover. Drew Warner's Sports and Recreation Video also spotlighted the release of Open Trench 2. |

| On Friday, Gentry on Halsted was the setting for Will Clark's Chicago Edition of "Cocktails with the Stars." In addition to an open mic-type chat with today's hottest gay adult film stars, Clark, raffled off videos and auctioned personal items from the stars, all to raise money for the Center on Halsted. We hope to be seeing Scott, a friend of Gay Chicago Magazine, modeling that porn star Speedo he purchased one day very soon. |

| Early morning raindrops gave way to mostly clear skies and a full moon on Saturday night for the 11th Annual Grabby Awards Show (actually the 4th live show anniversary) at Circuit nightclub. It seemed appropriate, after last year's wet weekend, that cohosts Chi Chi LaRue and Honey West opened the show with a live version of It's Raining Men, complete with back up dancers in see-through rain slickers and the biggest hair I've ever seen. Why do we do this, directrix LaRue asked the crowd of porn industry, fans and press? "We love dick, and we love sex." Amen to that! |  |

In addition to LaRue and West, Falcon exclusive Addison Scott and cutie Christian Taylor rounded out the hosting duties. LaRue, by far the most vocal of the hosts, was sharp as a tack, and the 2002 Grabbys show proved to be a mix of irreverent respect, tearful thank yous and biting sarcasm. At one point, Honey West commented, "It's getting a bit cunty in here." LaRue's keen timing and acerbic tongue lashed out at everything, including dressing room refreshments. "Would it be to much to ask for a cheese platter or something I mean, Honey West brought in Chicken McNuggets," she bellowed. When someone called out her name from the audience, LaRue thanked them for pronouncing it "'She, She' instead of 'Chee Chee,' like I'm a fucking Mexican restaurant." |
| Many porn people commented on how much "fun" this Chicago awards show was compared to The GayVN's. That tone was set early, when Matthew Rush came up to accept his award, at first seeming awestruck by seeing his nominated "solo performance" playing on the big screen. The showing of hardcore video clips also sets the Grabbys apart from its L.A. cousin. | ||

| Another highlight of the Grabbys was the trophy stud selection process, which took place at the Lucky Horseshoe throughout the past few months. Damien Marco, Randy Creed and Donavin (above) provided a cross section of eye candy, replete with a veritable runway show of the latest underwear stylings. Later we learned that all of the trophy studs have porn aspirations (surprise, surprise), and LaRue announced that Randy Creed would be appearing in After Shock, the follow-up to Shock, LaRue's video for Mustang Studios that won Best Leather at the GayVN Awards in March and again here at the Grabbys. |

| This year marked the first time that Sharon Kane actually came to accept her awards in person. Kane was genuine in her acceptance speech and expressed a deep thanks to not only the gay porn industry but to Gay Chicago Magazine. Kane, a straight and bisexual porn performer before finding her niche scoring and performing music for gay porn, received an award for her "nonsexual" performance along with Johnny Rahm in Porn Fiction and was inducted into the Grabby Wall of Fame. |

| Grabby presenter and original Fallen Angel Steve Cannon (along with Rik Jammer and Chad Hunt) announced that he is coming out of retirement for MSR Video, "to bottom for some of the hottest tops around." MSR Videos was using its booth at International Mister Leather to round up talent for two videos being shot in Chicago. |
